Plot #1

Chad is in tech support and comes into contact with an infected computer. When he’s fixing it, he falls asleep and the setting around him starts to change. When he wakes up, Chad meets Twisty, who is a guide to the VR world. Twisty introduces the credits to Chad and they venture through the world while collecting credits from various guardians. Along the way, these guardians warn Chad about a bug that has been infecting the computer, and tells him to be careful who he trusts. After all the credits have been collected, Chad discovers that Twisty was the bug for the whole time and was using him to find the credits. Chad defeats Twisty and escapes from the computer.

why didnt we use this:

  • It is a practical solution but not really fun fun, quite flat :”(

  •  there is a bit flatness in the concept (nerd gets sucked into computer)

    • Limits a sense of exploration because a lot of ideas have been done before

  • guardians idea quite hard to expand, because its quite expected

circuit board as potential membership sign!

Plot #2

It's the year 21xx and paintings only exist in digital form! Chad is now a painting restorer and restores paintings which are things of the past.  While he is restoring one of these paintings, he gets sucked into it. He realises that black paint is slowly spreading throughout the painting, destroying all the colour inside.  Eventually he discovers that this was because no one uses black paint for artworks and now it wants its revenge.

why didn't we use this:

  • couldn't figure out what type of items could be used as credits in a thematic/meaningful way :(

  • it was hard to expand on the motive for the black paint

  • the villain needed to be a physical character!!

Milestone check Plot!

Chad is a painting restorer and he gets sucked into a painting during work. In this VR world, Chad meets Campbell cans and they explain to him that many of their friends have gone missing. In order to help them, Chad needs to find credits by completing a series of problems :0 He goes through multiple paintings, from campbell cans, to monet’s water lily and finally, van gogh’s sunflower. After collecting three of the credits, Chad spots someone trying to eat the sunflower and discovers that it is actually ‘bleach’, who has been slowly consuming all the colour in the painting. Chad then initiates a rap battle between him and Bleach, and wins. He then finds a button that brings him back to the real world.

why didnt we use this:

  • progression of the story does not actually work?? a bit too jumpy the flow/ connection between different scene needs to be worked on

  • credit system is concerning there is no rules (it seems like chad is getting it as a reward now) it will be better if it’s non digenic

  • parts of the story with very obvious hint and other parts with no clues given at all (make it more balanced) e.g chad saying it a hint

  • too confusing

painting for red land: Campbell Cans

painting for blue land: Water Lilies

painting for yellow land: Sunflowers

THE CHOSEN ONE!

Chad is a detective and is on a mission to find a missing painter, or missing painters! He starts at their last spotted location: an art museum. He spots a sculpture of a bird and goes closer to inspect it, and then it starts to move! Suddenly, he feels like he's slipping and gets sucked into the painting. Inside the painting, he meets a pair of twins and discovers that they are the missing painters! With his case solved, all that's left is to get out of the painting, easier said than done. They check the painting label that Chad pulled off of the side of the painting and discover that they are rules to get out of the VR world. They start to collect credits from various parts of the painting, moving from one region to another, and eventually collect all of them. After collecting one of the credits from a talking tree (?) they start to move onto the next region, where they discover a moth trying to collect the second credit! They start playing a game of tug of war with the rag (second credit) and chase the moth into its lair. Inside, the moth traps Chad in a set of spikes and challenges Chad to a rap battle for two of the credits. Chad wins with that SICK FLOW and he gets the two credits. The rag and a paintbrush that the moth had stashed away. But, the last credit was still yet to be found…. Chad and the twins tried painting a door to get out of the painting, but were unsuccessful until the twins gave him the last credit, a palette knife. They managed to spread the paint and finally got out of the painting!

why we used this:

  • we managed to think of different elements of the story that could be tied together using the painting theme

    • credits

    • rules of credit collection

  • it wasn't a super common setting that many teams thought of

  • we also felt like it had a lot of potential for exploration and were excited to work on it!
